Sweetened Rum

Here we recommend rums that have been sweetened with the addition of aged sugar syrup, sweet wines or other sweetening agents to round off the rum’s flavour. Europe allows a maximum of 20grms of sugar per litre of alcohol to be added to rum.

Diplomatico is made at the Destilerias Unidas which is located at the foot of The Andes in the Terepaima National Park. They have been producing top-quality spirits for over 50 years and have achieved cult status with rum lovers across the globe. The distillery was designed for versatility, with three pot stills and four column stills distilling different styles of spirit from top-grade molasses and sugar cane honeys. The rum is a blend of molasses and sugar cane honey, a blend of pot and column still rum that has been aged from 2 to 12 years, sweetened by aged rum syrup.

Serving Suggestions: This “Dessert” rum is perfect neat or with a few cubes of ice. To add a twist, why not try adding a slice of pineapple. In a cocktail it lends it self to the sweeter style of drink. Rum Old fashions, Rum Manhattans and cocktails that call for sweet sherry as a modifier.

Tasting Notes

Big aromas of fruit cake, rum’n’raisin, cocoa, dried ginger, cinnamon and clove. Tropical fruits, bananas and toffee, banoffee pie. On the palate there is initial chocolatey notes, sweet toffee, fudge and tropical fruit flavours from the nose. The finish is long and sweet like sticky pudding. Lots of brown sugar, caramel, toffee and bananas with a touch of heat.
