More Gen Z and Millenials than ever before are giving up or cutting down on alcohol, switching Jack Daniels for juice and Scotch for soda. There are definitely perks to limiting your alcohol consumption, with benefits to both your physical and mental health, but giving up the taste of a Mojito is undeniably tough! Fortunately, mocktails are here to save the day, and we’re bringing you the very best in alcohol-free cocktail recipes to help you cut down.
Basics For Deliciously Decadent Mocktails
If you’re getting into the alcohol-free game, we’d recommend keeping a few essentials in your bar. These ingredients are mocktail staples that can turn basic bases into flavoursome punches and delicious cocktails! Our recommendations include:
- Alcohol-free bitters- Syrups
- Cordials
Bitters are probably the most vital ingredient to remember. Packed full of deep, concentrated flavour, a few drops can quickly lift any alcohol-free drink! Take a look at the premium Bob’s Bitters range for high-quality, natural bitters recommended by our mixologists.
Lime Collins
Zesty and fiery, the Lime Collins is a fantastic all-year-round drink that has plenty of bite! To make yours, combine equal parts lime juice, lime syrup, and ginger beer with three parts coconut water. Add 2 dashes of grapefruit bitters and top with soda water. For a refreshing garnish, finish your mocktail with a slice of cucumber. Refreshing and spicy, we highly recommend this when you’re craving a drink.
Lemon and Rose Sherbert
Fragrant and elegant, this is a drink that’s ideal for sunny days and a garden in full bloom. It’s a beautiful mocktail, too, that’s bound to impress at this year’s garden parties. Here’s how to make your own:
- Add 6 tbsp of demerara sugar to a plan with 300ml of water until dissolved. Bring to a boil until it reaches the consistency of honey.- Once cooled, add 1-5 tbsp of rosewater or rose bitters, 80ml of lemon juice, and a little pink food colouring if you’re using it
- Add a generous scoop of lemon sorbet along with a few ice cubes into glasses
- Pour a good amount of syrup into each glass before topping with sparkling water
If you’d like a sweeter cocktail, switch up lemon juice for Mr. Fitzpatrick’s Lemon, Cucumber & Mint Cordial and enjoy a fresh, light drink.
Sidecar Mocktail
A truly decadent alcohol-free cocktail that has a little more depth than others on this list is the Sidecar. Start with 50ml of chilled lapsang souchong tea, which will add smokiness to your drink and provide a base with plenty of oomph. Add it to a cocktail shaker, along with 50ml of lemon juice and a teaspoon of marmalade. Stir until the marmalade has dissolved, before adding a teaspoon of honey and plenty of ice. Shake, strain, and serve.
Apple and Elderflower Fizz
Easy to make and beautifully sweet, we love an Apple and Elderflower Fizz when we don’t want to put in a lot of effort. To make yours, add 1 tbsp of elderflower cordial, 125ml of apple juice, and the juice of half a lemon to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until cool, and pour into a glass. Top with sparkling water if you enjoy a fizzier drink, and enjoy!
