How the World is Celebrating Women’s Day 2025

Every year on March 8th, people come together to honour International Women’s Day (IWD). This day is not only an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of women throughout history but also to raise awareness about the challenges women continue to face and to advocate for gender equality. With roots in the labour movements of the early 20th century in Europe and North America, IWD has grown into a worldwide movement that calls for action, unity, and progress.

The Theme for 2025: Accelerate Action for Gender Equality

This year, the International Women’s Day campaign centres around the theme "Accelerate Action for Gender Equality." The mission is clear: to push society to take bold, measurable steps toward ensuring equality for women and girls in every sphere of life.

According to the International Women’s Day website, achieving this vision requires collective effort. By supporting the supporters of women’s rights and gender equality, we can drive meaningful change. Check out their website to learn about some key actions we can all take to contribute to this mission.

In Poland, Women's Day is a pretty big deal! Women often receive flowers and chocolates from their male colleagues at work, while girls in schools and preschools get small gifts or flowers. At home, husbands, boyfriends, and family members usually surprise the women in their lives with flowers or thoughtful little presents.

Alongside these traditions, many cities organise special events like concerts, workshops, sports activities, and theatre shows. This year in Warsaw, for example, there will be plenty of concerts, a creative workshop where you can make your own eco-jewellery as a Women’s Day gift, and even a football tournament!
