5 Best Drinks to Make Using Tequila

If your only experience with tequila is as a shot (accompanied by salt and lime, of course) it’s time to change that. Though this strong spirit has earned a reputation as a party-goers quick fix, it has so much more to offer! Highlighting the versatility and unique flavour of this Mexican drink, we’ve put together some of our favourite tequila-based cocktails.

1. Tequila Paloma

Tequila pairs perfectly with pink grapefruit juice and plenty of zesty lime to create the fiery Tequila Paloma. Citrusy and with a beautiful tart taste, it’s ideal when you’re in the mood for a fruity cocktail without the sweetness. Be sure you create a salt rim to give this popular cocktail a bit more bite!

2. Negroni (and Negroni Sbagliato)

Negronis have been getting a lot of attention recently since the viral Negroni Sbagliatio TikTok rocketed them to modern-day fame. But, this actually an old-school drink that dates back to the early 1900s. Switch up the recipe by swapping gin for tequila or mezcal we recommend Illegal Joven for a gentle smokiness that pairs perfectly with the bitterness of the cocktail. Add Campari, vermouth, and slices of orange for a well-balanced drink.

3. Classic Margarita

Did you know that the world-famous Margarita is a tequila-based cocktail? A boozy staple of the mixology world, you can find a Margarita in every bar around the world - and for good reason! The classic recipe calls for Storywood Reposado Speyside Tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and a salt rim, though there are plenty of flavour combinations you can play with. Coconut, lemonade, and cranberry are our top recommendations!

4. Tequila Pino del Oro

Less well-known than the other options on this list, but just as worthy of its place here, is the Tequila Pino Del Oro. Fruity with light herbal notes, it’s a refreshing drink that works well with a well-rounded tequila, like Casamigos Reposado, which lends a beautiful undertone of oaky sweetness. To make one at home, mix tequila with pineapple juice, a squeeze of lime, sage syrup, and Peychaud’s bitters.

5. Long Island Iced Tea

One of the most alcoholic cocktails out there, we couldn’t write about tequila without mentioning Long Island Iced Tea! A perfect punch, it contains equal parts tequila, gin, vodka, rum, and triple sec for a drink that’ll blow your socks off. The overall flavour, though, is smooth and nicely balanced, making it a popular cocktail around the world.
